Mondays with Moltmann (On Non-Violence)

Non-resistance to evil shows up the absurdity of evil. Evil’s strength is violence. Evil’s weakness is its wrongness. Counter-violence supplies evil with its supposed justification, and often enough stabilizes it. It is only the non-violent reaction which robs evil of every legitimation and puts the perpetrator of violence in the wrong, ‘heaping burning coals on his head.’
